WENDY + WILLIAM
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already heard this story, but its totally worth telling again. Wendy + William had been planning their wedding for months, they rented out this amazing airbnb in Malibu overlooking the mountains and I was all set to capture it. Then a few days before their wedding the fires in Malibu started. There was a lot of uncertainty at first, but 2 days before their wedding the house was officially deemed unsafe for people to be at.
So obviously you can imagine this is devastating when you’ve been planning for months. And I don’t think anyone else could have handled as well as these two! There was a lot of emotion, but they immediately got to work and planned a whole new wedding in 2 days.
Their new venue was in a backyard in Thousand Oaks (which was a pretty incredible alternative!!), but Thousand Oaks was also under a state of emergency, so they had a lot of restrictions and had to keep it short and ultimately weren’t able to have a reception. The important thing was just for Wendy + William to be married and they were so happy just to be able to have a beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends.
It had to have been the most beautiful day I’ve ever been a part of because it stripped away all the frills and was 100% about love and starting a life together. I’m obsessed with these pictures because I think that’s exactly what they represent.
Because their wedding was cut so short I offered to do a day after session with them in a totally different location. This was super fun because they got very few portraits of just the two of them on their wedding day, and this was all about that. Slowing down, soaking in being married and getting some beautiful pictures in a beautiful spot. Check those out here— https://www.jennycollen.com/journal/vasquez-rocks/wendy-william
